Land, Sea and Sky

The fall exhibition “Land, Sea, & Sky” brings together two Canadian artists—Jørgen Lauritzen and Roger Quesnel—whose distinct practices invite viewers to contemplate the worlds we inhabit and the atmospheres that transcend them.

Jørgen Lauritzen’s paintings explore the poetics of the built environment. His industrial and urban landscapes capture spaces marked by deconstruction, abandonment, and transformation. With a metaphysical lens, Lauritzen reimagines these places as sites of reflection where decay and absence open pathways to deeper meaning.

In contrast, Roger Quesnel turns our gaze upward and outward, to the immensity of the natural world. Known for his luminous cloudscapes and expansive landscapes, Quesnel imbues his canvases with a quiet spirituality. His works evoke a sense of the ethereal, offering viewers a glimpse of the otherworldly through the ever-shifting skies.

Together, Lauritzen and Quesnel map the terrain of human experience across land, sea, and sky. Their works reveal the tensions and harmonies between the material and the spiritual, the constructed and the infinite, grounding us while inviting us to look beyond.
